December 2009

I’m not the biggest fan of ‘exotic’ cars, not modern ones anyway. Sure they are amazing machines and that but a nice 30 year old retro banger seems far more interesting to me than a shiny red Ferrari, however after the usual browsing of all things car related on the Internet I happened upon an amazing picture, which led me to find out about the Orlando Exotic Car show. It is a yearly show organised by the American Ferrari club and it attracts a lot of tourists and is more of a non car people car show – a family would love it. So if you are on holiday in Florida one year near the 16-19th of April, why not get car hire to Orlando and check out an awesome array of expensive and fascinating supercars in the sun at the Celebration Exotic Car Festival (BTW that is the most epicly brilliant 90′s website ever!)

The photo that I came across is this picture of a Radical SR8, I’m not a big fan of Radicals but this pic is just awesome. The combination of how dirty and used the car is, the casual parking on a street, the uninterested passers by and the rather weak Radical Motorsports tent makes it seem like this isn’t at a car show at all and is just somebody’s car who is just popping out for some milk. Excellent!

These are some of the more interesting pictures I found of the rest of the show. All pics from The shows official website (link in above text) or Car Ninja’s Flickr

Amazing pictures of when British driver Hunter Abbott crashed his Ginetta g50 10 minutes into a British GT4 championship race. 100 mph into a barrier does not sound fun! Luckily Abbbot escaped without even a broken bone! Testament to how well built the cars and how good the marshal’s are at these events.

Does anyone else think this year has been a bit slow on the van front? I mean we have had the usual trucks everywhere and very nice they are as well but where have all the vans gone? Japan are still going mental with them in their own crazy ways, although a lot of them do seem to be MPV’s rather than actual vans.

So first off lets remind ourselves of how they did vans originally. Roof chops, lake pipes, graphics and murals galore!

Garish, jacked up and just simply amazing!

Now what about the japanese, the often have a crazy outlook when doing cars so what do they do with vans? The VIP look seems to work well!

Of course they also do a pretty good job of imitating American styles as these pinstriped beauty’s show!

The different choice they have for retro vans makes for some pretty smart looking vehicles as well.

So what does the rest of the world have? Dubs. That is pretty much it apart from a few exceptions, that I will go into in another post because they are that special, so instead of bay windows or splittys, have a couple mega slammed T3′s!

Excuse me while I just browse for used vans, I think I have an idea…

The stance on this makes me so, so, so, soooo happy! Rake is often overlooked these days, I guess people like to make it around corners more often than they used to.

From Speedhunters Mooneyes part 2 report

Two new bad ass SUV’s from Abu Dhabi have come to take the Hummer down a peg or two and with pant wettingly huge bhp figures (and ride heights!) It looks like they might be the Terminators new vehicle of choice! They are from a company called Alanqa and sound like they were named as an homage to Kevin Costner.

The Bodyguard (left) and the V-Guard (right) have a 620 hp Corvette V8, which will haul the mammoth 2,400kg beasts to 60 mph in about seven seconds and onto 130 mph. 130 mph off road must be insane!

Not much is known yet because they are having a big unveiling at the Dubai motor show next week, I wonder if it is to late to try and book flights to Dubai?  What is known however is that they have huge 200 litre fuel tanks so even at an abysmal 8 mpg they will still be able to cover 466 miles. I would imagine however that whoever buys one of these very exclusive vehicles (only 100 made a year) will either be from Abu Dhabi anyway and probably own their own petrol company or be the governor of an American state. Prices start at £75,000 and go up to a whopping £200,000 depending on what pimping gadgets you want.

Cobra’s are cool, Cobra replicas are also very cool but most of the time they are awesome bodies with awesome engines but they have the underpinnings of a very old and rubbish car.

That is all due to change now though because of the CB/1, which has the usual gorgeous body and the stonking V8 engine, in this case a Ford 385 with 650 hp and 640 lb/ft of torque! A Porsche transaxle and a brand new specially made chassis that can corner so fast and hard your internal organs will hate you. This basically means you have the kind of power and speed normally reserved for the PS3 and Top Trumps cards! How does 2.85 seconds to 60 and a 10.5 second quarter mile sound?

Good times!
