In my opinion this picture sums up almost perfectly the two different styles you can do a mk2 Golf in.

For all UK readers of this ‘ere blog you need to get yourself in the house at 10pm tonight and chuck on More4 to watch the film ‘Love The Beast‘, a documentary following Australian superstar Eric Bana and his close friends as they set about turning his pride and glory Ford Falcon into a rally car capable of competing in the brutal Traga Tasmania Rally. It is a story of just how something can bring people together and can mean more to some people than most would think reasonable.
I have yet to see it so I’m quite excited to watch it tonight but everyone who has seen it has said it is the perfect film to show anyone who doesn’t quite understand the obsession we have with our cars. I have had my car longer than most things have stayed in my life and I have gone through so much with it the thought of ever getting rid of it is pretty terrible so hopefully if I show this film to certain people they will understand why I love my broken heap of metal so much.
Excited to see the Targa Tasmania footage as well, its always been a dream to get a car and fly to Australia to compete in something as insane and amazing, so to see some proper ‘film’ quality footage of it will be awesome.
Anyway everyone watch it on More4 tonight (19/06/10) at 10pm! Check out the trailer below.

Fancy driving around using nothing but the power of compressed air? Sounds good doesn’t it, helps the problems with global climate change we’ve been having, helps with the fact oil is running out (or being dumped into the sea…) and most importantly air should be cheap right?!
Well a company called MDI seems to think they have figured this one all out and after ten years of research they think they have perfected a mono-energy engine that operates on totally eco friendly compressed air that is stored at high pressures.
They have combined this with small (disgustingly ugly) cars designed perfectly for the urban life. Think the G-Wiz but with air instead of electricity. The company also offers a dual fuel engine, which burns petrol, diesel, oil, alcohol or gas in an external continuous combustion chamber, this allows for a greater range and the amount of toxic gases released into the environment is still very low, with less than 2 litres of petrol needed for 100 kilometres (at 90Km/h). The dual-energy engines will work in compressed air mode when around town and will only start burning petrol when longer range is needed for motorway driving.
Anyway you can see the list of cars on the MDI website and marvel and the quite weird designs they have for cars like the Air Pod and City FlowAIR. You can also see all the info about the very cool engines on the site
Got a spare $60,000 and a love for rather large American Trucks? Well why not get yourself over to California and take a look at this Chevy COE that is absolutely stunning.
Based in North Hills California it has a new 454 V8 in the rear of the cab and pretty much everything is brand new. A full nut and bolt restoration has been done on it and it is basically like getting a brand new truck. I have seen one of these trucks in the UK but I think it must be the bigger sister or something because it is used as a race car transporter and is hella cool. If I had the money I would be jumping on a plane tonight and picking up a hire car in California driving to view it and handing over a wad of cash and then driving it back to the nearest shipping docks ready for transportation back to the UK. Not sure how I would get the hire car back to the depo though, maybe I’ll just give them a fake name and then leave it somewhere and not worry about it.
Anyway if your less of a dreamer than me and you actually have a spare 60k hanging around you could do a lot worse than to buy this absolute gem!
So I did a post the other week about the Beatnik Blowout and there was a particularly awesome van in the pictures that clearly deserved a thread of its own, so here it is… The van formerly known as Balls Deep!
That’s all I’m gonna give you for now because I’ll probably be dropping pics of this van randomly over the next gazillion years. The original thread with loads of awesome pics all through the amazing build can be found on Los Boulevardos here and it is definitely worth a read (all 27 pages worth!) I found it particularly interesting to see what its like over the pond in regards to backyard building and doing things on a budget.
Anyway this is easily one of the coolest vans that I know of and I just love everything about it, the look, the build, the spirit and the dedication.
Some companies really are pulling out all the stops to be as environmentally friendly as possible in a bid to stop global climate change. Ferdinand have even gone to lengths to show that hardened sports cars like the Porsche GT3 RS can be made to be good to the environment as well and all you need to do is a bit of leg work…
What I love most about this is the fact it must have taken them ages to do this joke and they made a 6 minute video! Anyone who is willing to go that far for a joke is A-OK in my book.

What I am going to say next is purely my opinion, I have a distinct love for older cars anyway and I obviously haven’t seen every car in the UK but..
This is probably one of the coolest cars around in Britain at the moment.
A Hillman Minx Estate is what I would consider to be one of the coolest cars around at the moment, This thread on Retro Rides will probably show you why! It just looks amazing and all just done by a man in a (pretty good) shed, as a decent second parts chaser for his main car.
Read the excellent build thread that has some really good walkthroughs of how things were done and just look at how awesome the car is below!
First off the car with the new wheels he has just got on it…
Some pictures of a very cool early morning drive through London (read the journey here)
Awesome photo of some amazing cars!
Some pictures of the old wheels that are just as awesome in a completely different way! Green metal flake FTW!
The lace paintwork on the roof is a nice touch.
Long shifters = bad ass!
And you know I mentioned that it was a parts chaser/daily? Well even with leaf springs on the back and the impressive lows he managed, he doesn’t need to go to all the trouble of tucking it up in a garage and trying to book up car hire for his holidays, it will tow a very hefty trailer tent and easily carry the families bikes on the roof and still fit all the gear in the boot! I think for me this is what makes the car just so cool, I like my cars being used and this picture below just portrays that perfectly!
