After doing a piece about eco cars to help stop global warming, and deciding that the only decent electric car by a long way was the Tesla Roadster, I was pleased to see an article on The Times Online announcing a new Tesla Saloon. unimaginatively titled the Model S, it will be the first mass-produced, motorway capable car, A respectable 300 miles to one charge means it would easily get me further without stopping than my own car would. At a predicted entry level price of £39,000 it is competing with some of the big boys of the saloon world, but Tesla say that, the initial price is easily recouped because of the extremely cheap running costs. Charging the car will be significantly cheaper than the cost of fueling a car, Tax would be free and the maintenance costs would be a lot lower because of the simplicity of electric motors.
According to the Tesla website as well as the impressive 300 mile range, it has a 45 minute quick charge, 7 seater capability, because of two small seats in the rear for kids, and the usual impressive performance from the torquey engine. As with the roadster the electric engine means it has 100% of torque 100% of the time and this means that it has a very impressive 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds and a 120 mph top speed. It also has a built in 17 inch ‘infotainment’ touch screen with built in 3G wireless capabilities so you can look at google maps or simply to listen to your favourite internet radio station (Spotify would be brilliant in a car!). How much this would reduce your battery life though I’m not sure.
It cannot be disputed that it is a very nice looking car, especially for a 4 door, and because of the extra space allowed by the simple running gear is extremely practical as well.
The only bad part? Deliveries dont start until 2011!

As soon as I saw this car I immediately thought of the Porsche Panamera which also has 4 doors and looks similar to this Telsa. Check it out:
