Scott G Toepfer its better in the wind 1 500x333 Its Better In The Wind Scott Toepfer

Because we read “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, and were taught that art is a path chosen by those who will themselves into the unknown. Because we watched ‘Easy Rider’ and want to find that for ourselves rather than from a television.

Today we face a world that is unkind to change, filled with the reluctance of apathy. Pioneers are just faceless figurines in museums, rather than part of tomorrow’s manifesto.

There is something to be cherished in our wide open spaces, if only the chance to breathe an unknown air, in search of a new way forward.

Setting out across the West. On vehicles without windows to restrict the scenery. With sincerity on the mind, we will be alone to reflect on past and future paths, only to find that the solidarity of the group will take us another day forward.

Follow us, share your stories. Enjoy the art, and the journey.

A Day With Dimitri Coste

a day with dimitri coste 500x281 A Day With Dimitri Coste

What better way to advertise Eastpak than by getting uber cool photographer Dimitri Coste to ride around with his mates on a 1937 Velocette Mack and a 1964 Triumph Tiger Cub in Paris abusing sets of steps and bike surfing on the pavements?

(Video after the jump)

Matt Machine 1978 XS650

yamaha xs650 street tracker side 500x332 Matt Machine 1978 XS650

There are so many awesome XS650′s appearing at the moment and it seems like every day I see one done as a cafe racer, bobber or some other kind of hardtail but Pipeburn just put up a cool little street tracker that really caught my eye with its more dirt bike style to it. Really digging the square light, scrambler style exhaust and race numbers in the frame.

Video Man – Seth Huot

bolts action 500x206 Video Man Seth Huot

Browsing through Vimeo today I found a video of the excellent Bolts Action crew from Seth Huot and he has a cool little profile on some of the members and there bikes, they are all worth checking out because as usual they have footage of them doing silly things on completely inappropriate bikes! I am a big fan of there dirt bike/harley/chopper/bobber hybrids, who says you can’t stunt a chopper?!

Kott Motorcycles

kott motorcycles burnt nickel cafe racer 500x331 Kott Motorcycles

Classic Honda BB did a cool little 4 episode feature on Kott Motorcycles a while back and I’ve just been watching through them all now and they’re a very cool little insight into the makings of a cafe racer from various old Hondas. I particularly like the very detailed explanation of how to build the perfect seat. It’s good stuff so if you’re interested in bikes and building customs then check it out.

Love That Guy

guy martin tt 500x280 Love That Guy

Everyone’s favourite TT Racer and engine enthusiast Guy Martin recently had an interview with Super Street Bike and I had to share a quote with you all. It pretty much sums up how these hooligans that ride the TT think; absolutely insane. When asked about his scariest moment he said “I thought the game was over last year [Guy had a massive crash at the TT in 2010], when I slid and hit the wall. It wasn’t scary – you just think, “Oh well, that’s it – game over,” in a pretty calm way. I’ve had a few moments like that.”

Now that sounds silly enough but it is when he carries on and says this, that you realise just how far they will go to get the ultimate thrill:

“The buzz I got from my crash in 2010, I mean it just looked so spectacular. And now I’ll just keep riding to try and get that same buzz again. I’m not trying to sound hard or anything, but I could die tomorrow and I’d be quite happy.”

the many injuries of evel knievel 500x438 The Many Injuries Of Evel Knievel

It would seem Evel Knievel hurt himself on quite a regular basis. When you look back on his stunt career it is amazing just how many of his jumps went bad, I think people turned up ready to see a fail or a win, either would keep them happy.

“There are a lot of myths about my injuries. They say I have broken every bone in my body. Not true. But I have broken 35 bones. I had surgery 14 times to pin and plate. I shattered my pelvis. I forget all of the things that have broke”

A shattered pelvis doesn’t sound like fun. Interestingly the ever reliable (LOL) Wikipedia claims “The 433 broken bones he suffered during his career earned an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the survivor of “most bones broken in a lifetime”.

Without a doubt the most famous stuntman, I wonder if he has the record for surviving the most motorbike accidents in general as well. I do know he held the record for jumping the most stacked cars for 35 years before it was broken in 2008, what seems ridiculous now though is most modern moto x riders jump huge gaps without even thinking about it, shows how much bike technology has come on, it must have been hard work heaving a heavy Harley Davidson off a ramp!

Apparently the current longest jump done on a Motorcycle was done by Australian Robbie Maddison who jumped an incredible 107m and made it all look very simple as you can see in the video below. Evel Knievel’s longest successful jump was 133 feet (40.5m).

Recently the picture below popped up and I absolutely loved the artwork on the tank and so after putting it on the LLE Tumblr, I knew I had to do a bit of digging to find more about it.

Eventually I came across this post on Vanishing Point which shows it in basic bare frame design with no engine in and helpfully it also links to a Flickr page where they got the pictures from. The Flickr belongs to Brass Balls Bobbers and this is one of their many awesome bikes they make. Well worth checking them out if you are into bobbers, choppers and bikes.

This is what the finished bike ended up looking like.

The artwork, details and colours all work so well together, I personally would prefer a bike with slightly less rake on the forks but that is just down to personal taste.
