gatebil hot rod drifting 500x333 Tandem Of Die At Gatebil

Gatebil is by all accounts an absolutely ridiculous weekend of big power cars tearing it up on a pretty open and relaxed track and I can’t wait to see more and more videos getting posted up soon but for now we will ahve to make do with another Tandem of Die teaser. Turn up your speakers and listen to the glorious sounds of engines hitting limiters and tyres getting shredded!

Check out more Gatebil pictures and write ups on Speedhunters

Mad Mike has just unveiled the latest incarnation of his mental RX7 drift car and by gosh it looks insane! It looks like the kind of car you draw as a child, all big wings, big wheels and big bits of engine sticking outside of the bay.

Apart from the most obvious change, which is the paint and graphics, you can also see the big filters and trumpets hanging out of one side of the engine bay. This hints at the monster 4 rotor concoction that is fitted into the engine bay. The engine isn’t brand new as we saw a video from it a while back as it was testing in the old style shell but it is now more ‘complete’. The noise and look of the car now is just amazing. The video below shows the engine in the old livery, but is worth watching just to check out the flames!

Red Bull have released a short shake down video of Mad Mike in the car and he talks about a few of the things he had to do to get it ready and shows how he has tried to make the backwards entry more of a possibility.

He has also done a more comprehensive write up on Speedhunters, which shows just how much work has gone into this 5th gen version of the Madbul. Once back in his shop after the last drift season he proceeded to chop the front and back completely off the car and make up a spaceframe from scratch. Wall taps this year shouldn’t be so much of a problem now!

drifting the gauntlet 500x244 Drifting The Gauntlet

Stephen Brooks is back but this time with a video from overseas as he was invited over by Gardella Racing to film the Jersey leg of the Formula D season. The guy really does have a sweet cinematic style to his films and are well worth a watch.

Anyway I’ll let the video do the talking.

matt powers 500x333 Matt Powers Track Clearing

After getting knocked out at Atlanta, Matt Powers was asked to go and clean up the track to get any left over oil off the tarmac from a previous spill. Ever the crowd pleaser he throws out a slow and smoky drifty burnout session that looked like a lot of fun! It’s these bits in between battles that really make drifting so cool, normally there would be a boring truck to come along and clean up!

I’m sure by now everyone has seen and heard about the crazy Finnish Merc diesel powered wagon, it is completely nuts and completely brilliant. This picture got everyone’s jaws dropping to start with…

And then people found some more pictures, build pics and a few videos turning up. However I have just come across the team, called Black Smoke Racing and their compilation video of the 2010 racing and drifting season! I love that not only has someone built a drift car out of something completely wrong – a diesel estate – but they have actually built it so well it drifts just as good as almost anything I’ve seen!

So take 8 minutes of your day and watch this:

Another round and another teaser for the Tandem Of Die film that is being made throughout the 2011 season. I seriously cannot wait for the full thing at the end of the season it looks like it is going to be incredible!

The track looks really good from a spectators point of view because you can see the whole thing and it has a super fast first corner that saw a lot of backwards entries!

The winner of the event was Daijiro Yoshihara in the Discount Tire S13, Darren McNamara came second and Toshiki Yoshioka came in third. This means the top 5 table overall looks like this:

  1. Yoshihara – 194 points
  2. Pawlak – 164 points
  3. Powers – 151 points
  4. McNamara – 148 points
  5. Forsberg – 134 points

With five rounds still to go things will still be changing around quite drastically!

stephen brooks film 500x281 BDC Round 1 The Battle Begins

Typically epic stuff from Stephen Brooks who always likes making his videos look like a Hollywood blockbuster. Awesome to see a fair amount of footage of Declan Munnelly’s Morleysport MK2 Escort, man I love that thing! British drifting is still tiny compared to the corporate giant that is Formula D so it is always interesting to see the difference in driving and event sizes.

For any of the techy geeks, Stephen also did a little write up of how he goes about his videos with regards to settings and equipment on the Drifted site here.

This is the first video I have seen out that has some decent footage and decent length to it, most of the other videos including the Tandem Of Die clip I put up in the post I did about the first round of the 2011 Formula D season are just trailers and teasers at the moment. If all the footage is this good, I can’t wait to see all the other videos on their way to the internet!

It comes from David Sullivan who is a new name to me but I like his style and his choice in music is pretty cool as well with a Minus The Bear dubstep remix (and I normally hate dubstep!)

Anyway enjoy the skids!
