Electric Drag Beetle

I was perusing the excellent Retro Rides forum earlier when somebody put up a post from the Easter Thunderball event that was just 3 pictures of an insanely fast and very different Volkswagen Beetle that was part of the VWDRC. Now before I talk about it just look at the pictures.

Now I think you will all agree that before you even think about the missing engine in the back, this is a stunning and well made car! It goes as well as it looks as well with a record breaking run of 11.95 for the 1/4 mile.

Yes that’s right this car is the fastest electric powered drag car in Europe! Whilst Electric cars still have a long way to go before they are a viable option for most motorists, experiments like this, done by a guy called Sam Young and his crew, show that electricity can be just as cool as petrol power and can be made to power some extremely quick cars! This is all good for climate change news and will hopefully win over some people who think Electricity should stay in the awful G-Wiz!

Santa Pod is also hosting the Alternative Energy Racing championships on the 23rd of April, which has various expensive and inexpensive electric cars battling it out including a Tesla and the above Beetle.
