So you work for a Hot Rod shop and you want to build a quick Rod out of bits you have in parts bins for a 24 hour race that’s coming up. You would obviously then take that car to a local drift event to see how it does their as well wouldn’t you!

A guy called Fish in California has done exactly that recently with the most cobbled together and ratty race car most people have probably ever seen. It is a ’27 Model T shaped rod with an 80′s Mustang engine, gearbox and rear axle, it was built in his shop using an old body they had that was pretty much scrap for an event called the 24 hours of LeMons, which is a budget race series, the maximum your allowed to spend is $500.

Eventually they raided enough parts bins to build a complete car and they have shown just what a bit of innovation and thinking can get you; for instance the panhard rod is made from the rear link off a Ford Granada. The spirit of the LeMons race means the car had to stay budget and also be a nice and drivable, reliable car because it has to go for 24 hours, this meant that the day after he was at a track doing a normal grip trackday he thought maybe I’ll stick around for the drift day happening tomorrow. From the reports of it on OMGDrift and Fittedlife it sounds as if it wasn’t too bad at skidding as well for a car set up to grip as much as possible.

Even if you think this looks like a pile of scrap you can’t deny how much fun and how cool this is on such a mega budget. Beats the budget ‘rat look’ car that seems to be burning my eyes all over the place at the moment.
