Old Skool Beetle And Bus Hire
Living down by the southcoast means I see an abundance of old VW camper vans and Beetles in the summer months with anyone from family’s to the typical surfers driving them. they’re so popular that they are available from van hire companies, so you dont even have to endure the weld-a-thon and massive scene prices to have a cool holiday in one. I’ve often thought about hiring one for a nice little get away when I cant be bothered with a tent, but it would seem you have to be at least 25 most of the time. Its not just vans that companies hire out though as a lot of them also haveĀ Beetle’s available for car hire as well, such as one company who will actually hire you a stretch beetle limo.
However the Birmingham based company, VW Funerals, dont hire their vehicles out for weddings or proms, they specialise in funerals and will rent out there cars to be used as hearses! The 1972 bay window campervan they use is actually called the type 26 Hearse and was a special conversion used by undertakers as a private ambulance and now the company use the vehicle for actual funerals. It has a full proper hearse interior for carrying the coffin and they will even put a roofrack on top to place the flowers on. With the van taking the coffin to the funeral, they also have 3 stretched beetles to transport the family and grieving behind the coffin.
It has to be the ultimate hearse for any car lover or VW enthusiast, or even just anyone who wants to stay way from the traditional black formal style.

They could have at least converted a Splittie
the bay window they used was already a hearse, but it was just used as a body mover vehicle not actually for funerals. They just started using it as a proper funeral hearse.
I think they do have a nice splitty as well though somewhere on the site, but unfortunately its a bit ‘myfirstwebsite.com’ so its hard to use
Hi There,
Thanks for your comments.
You’re right it was already a hearse rather a private ambulance as used in the 70′s,we would have converted a splittie if we could have found one suitable but this one is immaculate and we are very proud of it.
Although it only just hit the news we have been offering it for funerals for nearly 3 years and we have a wedding car hire firm too http://www.beetledriveuk.com the family cars that travel behind the hearse are used for weddings, you are correct we don’t do proms as it is illegal to use these cars without a private hire license for that type of special occasions hire.
Sorry to hear you think our site is a bit “myfirstwebsite.com” I know it’s basic but it fits the bill and we get many compliments on how easy it is to use so I am suprised you have found it problematic. Perhaps have another try, maybe there was a problem when you visited. http://www.volkswagenfunerals.com
Our split is a 1963 21 window and is featured on the site.
Thanks for your interest.
